Toshiba, UMC in Separate Deals with Xilinx for 65nm, 45nm Technology

Toshiba and US Xilinx announced on December 6 that they will jointly develop 65nm microprocessor chipsets, and that they are also considering a deal whereby Toshiba would produce 65nm FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays) for Xilinx. Furthermore, the two companies are also in talks about developing 45nm FPGAs. Toshiba currently produces 90nm FPGAs for Xilinx.

 

In related news, Taiwanese UMC (United Microelectronics) has also signed an agreement with Xilinx for development of 65nm technology, and they are making preparations for R&D work on 45nm technology. UMC is Xilinx's main supplier of 90nm chipsets.
